Are you planning a paint project in the new year? Choosing a colour palette is the first important step when decorating a space.

If you want to create your own palette, start with one feature colour. Then add a lighter and darker shade to complement it. Alternatively, you can lean on the professionals. Four of the top paint brands have curated their own colour palettes, which all include their respective Colors of the Year. So go ahead and create a fresh vibe in your home with these design-forward colour palettes for 2024.

Paint colour palette 2024 - BEHR

Go Bold With Behr

If you’re looking for a bold and moody colour palette, start with Behr’s colour of the year — Cracked Pepper. “With every brushstroke of Cracked Pepper, you can paint a story of utmost confidence. It’s not merely about covering walls… it’s about evoking a renewed spirit for 2024,” says Erika Woelfel, the VP of Color and Creative Services at Behr Paint Company. Woelfel suggests pairing it with a light neutral paint like Even Better Beige for contrast or vibrant colours such as Amber Brew.

Paint colour palette for 2024 - Benjamin Moore

Vibrant Classics With Benjamin Moore

Tired of white walls and black accents? Sharon Grech, a spokesperson for Benjamin Moore and a regular expert on City Line, notes that in recent years, blue paint colours have been gaining popularity. “Navy blues are great alternatives to simple white or black for those wanting to step out of their colour comfort zones. Blue Nova offers a slightly bolder personality, a little more daring than classic navy but still toned down enough to be approachable and versatile for any upcoming paint project,” she says. Her favourite colour palette for 2024 includes Antique Pewter, with its silvery sage undertone paired with Topaz for a bold, upbeat warmth.

Paint colour palette for Sherwin Williams

Nordic Cool With Sherwin-Williams

Calling all fans of the Scandinavian pastel aesthetic — this colour palette is right up your alley! Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams, recommends using Upward. This breezy and dreamy shade of blue creates a calming atmosphere and she recommends it as the first colour in your 2024 palette. “With its cool blue undertone and hint of a silver lining, Upward draws inspiration from coastal vibes and Nordic styles to create timeless and inspired spaces,” she explains. Pair it with the delicate hue of Snowbound for warmth in everyday spaces and introduce a touch of mystery and elegance with Tricorn Black.

Bright Blues With Valspar

Let 2024 be the year to stop shying away from colour with this bright blue-inspired palette by Valspar. “Blue is a classic shade that has become the new neutral for today’s home,” says Sue Kim, the Director of Color Marketing at Valspar. “Renew Blue is an incredibly versatile and all-season shade that you can mix and match to fit a variety of design styles and applications.” She suggests pairing it with a soothing beige hue like Perfect Backdrop, to give it balance and tranquility. Complete the palette with Dusk in the Valley, a whimsical pastel purple with a subtle grey undertone.

Aging can be a beautiful thing. However, to age our best we need to take care of ourselves. The same can be said for a home. In the case of this heritage cottage, it was feeling its age after over a hundred years. Having been passed down to Ryan from his grandmother, it was a special place to both him and his family. Together, with his wife Ashlynn, they were determined to restore the property to its former glory and more. That’s when they called Scott McGillivray and Debra Salmoni. See how they transform this past-its-prime property into a stunning, historic hideaway for the Scott’s Vacation House Rules finale.

Downstairs Letdown

Though the property had no shortage of memories and charm, there was nothing delightful about the basement. Having been left unfinished for the last century, the space was used only for storage. As in vogue as Brutalist architecture is, nobody finds cinder block walls and exposed studs fashionable. To fix this, the team got to work, finishing the basement, and increasing the cottage’s usable footprint significantly. By doing so, they added another bedroom and second living space. Thanks to the team, it went from dingy dungeon to delightful den.

Defined Dining

Throughout the house Debra wanted to create a sense of cohesiveness and purpose. To tie the spaces together, she chose a black, white, and olive palette. This particular colour choice complimented the various textures and wood tones within the house. This was best showcased in the kitchen, where a shiplap ceiling and hardwood floors popped against the more muted tones. The well-defined dining area, coupled with large panoramic windows, allow the surrounding nature to shine through. After all, everything tastes better with a view.

Fancy Fireside

At its core, this property was special because of the memories that it held. After more than three generations in the family, it was a place to gather and cement bonds. To ensure that it could continue to do so, Scott wanted the living space to always feel relaxing and comfortable. He did just that by centering the designs around the gorgeous fireplace and mantle. Whether you’re the owners or guests, there should always be a place for people to come together. Now, this historic home is ready for another hundred years of memories (and serious rental income).

When enjoying yourself, it’s the little things that matter. So when little things keep going wrong, they can prevent that relaxing bliss. For cottage owner Susan, those little things had added up over the years, leaving her with one big problem. Her cottage had too many issues for her and her family to enjoy the way they used to. In the hopes of restoring the property back to its status of happy place, she called the experts: Scott McGillivray and Debra Salmoni. See how the team transformed the once problematic property into a classy country cottage.

Wasted Space

If there was one word that described Susan’s cottage it was: Underutilized. The building itself had great square footage, but between a partially unfinished basement, purposeless rooms, and a lackluster porch, all that space didn’t function. The cottage needed a whole new layout. To do so, the team finished the basement and made the screened-in porch functional year-round. By doing that, the property went from a two-bed, one-bath, to a luxurious four-bedroom, two-bath. Now there’s room for the whole family, and then some.

Room at the Table

Whenever designing a rental space, you want to accommodate as many guests as possible. In this country cottage, that meant designing a communal kitchen. After Scott and the team opened the space, Debra wanted to add some French flair. Pulling inspiration from the French countryside, Debra used a palette of light and dark blues with buttercream. Now the space feels both comfortable and bourgeoisie, while also making room for all the grandkids.

Year-Round Relaxation

As great as summer is, it’s not the only season worth enjoying. Even the colder weather can be beautiful, so long as you don’t have to freeze to see it. It was for that reason that Scott wanted to make the screened-in porch all-season. Not only does it allow guests to enjoy views of the lake, but it serves as a relaxing retreat separate from the rest of the house. After all, it wouldn’t be a true country cottage without a view.

Location is key to any property, but when that property is a storefront it’s crucial. For Kat and Kevin, their investment property had it, it was the rest of it that was lacking. With a storefront on the main level and an abundance of square footage above it, it was all potential. The problem was extracting that potential. The two wanted to turn their c storage into a luxe open concept inn. That’s where Scott McGillivray and Debra Salmoni came in to save the day.

Less Than Lavish

There is such a thing as a good problem. One example of this is having too much storage space. It’s great to have it, but we always seem to find a way to fill it. So, when Kat and Kevin’s property sat vacant, it did just that; filled up. Hoping to give it a better (and more profitable) purpose, they called in Scott and Debra. Immediately they saw the potential of the property. Located along a shopping center, with ample space and waterfront views, it was a diamond in the rough.

Olive the Green You Want

Since the building had so much old character, Debra made it her priority to showcase just that. That being said, the space still needed to function well. They wanted guests to have all the amenities they might need. For that reason, they installed a full laundry room, so guests can function as if at their own home. They paired the exposed brickwork with olive green beadboard, making the space feel both timeless and contemporary.

Keeping a Green Theme

Kat and Kevin, as well as the team, wanted to create a property that felt well thought out. It was important that all the rooms felt connected while still giving them their individual purposes. Scott and Debra felt the best way to achieve just that was through consistent colours and tones. So, throughout the spaces, they utilized a green and white palette, using slightly different tones of green to differentiate rooms and keep the designs feeling fresh. Now, thanks to the end result, we’re all green with envy.

Quirks are what make a house unique. In a world of cookie-cutter developments a little weird is good, but there are limits. For brothers, Mark and Michael, they found that limit in the home their parents purchased. Between funhouse mirrors, dated sunken tubs, and an indoor greenhouse smack dab in the middle of it all, it was more than the two could manage on their own. That’s where Scott McGillivray and Debra Salmoni came in. Together, they were ready to take on their biggest project yet. From the backyard pool to the indoor greenhouse, no leaf would be left unturned at this organic Oasis.

Unique Indoor Greenhouse

A greenhouse right in the middle of a house is a unique attraction, but it takes more than just that. Interest is nothing without execution and the greenhouse being rusty was not going to cut it. Because of this, Scott and the team overhauled the space completely. By redoing the trim and paneling in black, the plants take center stage while giving the space a sleek and modern feel. Coupled with AstroTurf on the floor, the space seamlessly blurs the lines between nature and home. Now guests and plants alike can breathe a breath of fresh air.

With the property being so large and opulent, it was expected that it would be used for entertaining. Because of this, it was important that the kitchen was not only capable of hosting, but also feeding large groups. The team pulled out all the stops, installing a full-sized beverage fridge, dual ovens, and a long waterfall island. By removing the unnecessary wall that separated the kitchen and dining room, the space functioned much better. It became as comfortable as it was practical.

One of the few spaces that didn’t need much change was the living room. With a simple but spacious layout, a charming fireplace, and full view of the greenhouse it had all the potential it needed. Rather than let it rest on its laurels, Debra wanted to make the space as special as the rest of the house. By adding relaxing and elegant furniture, coupled with textured paneling on the walls, she did just that. Now guests can delight in the plant life while enjoying the comfort of home.

We all know the saying: It’s not about how you start, but how you finish. However, when the last 10% of your project takes over 18 years to complete… it’s a problem. Located on a stunning peninsula on Paradise Point, Connie and Todd’s family cottage had been cherished by their family since they built it nearly two decades ago. They enjoyed their cottage so much that they had started making the most of it before the build was complete. While never having a finished product to rejuvenate, it was clear that the property was due for an update. That’s where Scott McGillivray came in. Alongside Debra Salmoni and his team, Scott got to work to make Paradise Point luxe, leisurely, and lucrative.

All About the Deck

Todd and Connie’s back deck had seen better days. However, one thing that didn’t diminish over time was its incredible view of the lake. The team was all hands on deck to provide the family with a space fitting of the scenery. By redoing it in a more modern and durable composite, they ensured safety, longevity, and timeless design. Now guests and family alike can enjoy the settings without a worry.

Luxurious Lounging

When owning any property, especially a rental, it’s important to capitalize on its best features. This cottage had done that with its incredible, large windows overlooking the lake. It was just the view of the indoor decor that needed to be brought up to match. New engineered vinyl flooring, coupled with stylish furniture, and finally adding contrasting black trim took the room from run-down cottage to palatial parlor.

Bedroom Bliss

Like the rest of the house the primary bedroom was mostly done and mostly great. Fortunately, mostly is never enough for Scott and the team. In order to take this space to another level, they wanted to add elements of design to tie the room to the rest of the spaces. The answer was obvious; exposed beam work to match the rest throughout the home. It created a sense of cohesion that makes the home all the more opulent.

When away with family or friends you want to spend that time connecting. Debra wanted to make sure that guests would be able to connect at all times, especially during meals. To make sure the space was conducive to just that, she had an open-concept banquette installed. Not wanting to stop simply at functionality, she accented the wall behind it with shiplap in a relaxing charcoal tone.

Sunny Side Up

Of all the property’s stunning qualities, there was one above all that was being underutilized, the sunroom. Once crammed full of the family’s excess storage, now it serves as one of the cottage’s most enticing features. As great as decks are sometimes, the weather isn’t conducive to being outside. It was for that reason that the team outfitted the space in a stunning black and white contrasted palette. Now, come rain or shine, guests can enjoy the stunning scenery of Paradise Point.

Bryan Baeumler of Bryan's All In

Bryan Baeumler is no stranger to running a business. Having operated in multiple countries, under every condition you can think of, it’s hard to picture him ever having difficulty starting out. However, his business, like all others, had to start somewhere. Having been through the struggles of running a new business and succeeding, Bryan wanted to help others do the same in Bryan’s All In. Hitting the road in his trusty RV, Bryan’s will go cross-country, helping new and struggling entrepreneurs renovate their businesses.

Ahead of the Bryan’s All In premiere, we caught up with him to find out everything you need to know about the two-part special event on Home Network.

Don’t miss Bryan’s All In, airing Sunday, October 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Home Network. Stream Live or On-Demand with STACKTV. Try it Free!

What Will Bryan be Doing?

Each episode Bryan and his team will meet a new deserving small business owner. Their goal is to help these small businesses by creating storefronts that will suit them. “Oftentimes, you get stuck in the details when you’re birthing a new business, when what you really need is a reminder to focus on the big picture from someone that has experience and can provide an outside perspective, while guiding you past the pitfalls you’ll encounter. That’s where I come in.” It’s impossible to grow when you’re stuck in a space that doesn’t fit. With Bryan’s expertise the team will bring them a space for them to thrive.

What is He Most Excited For?

When asked about what most excites him about this new endeavor, Bryan said, “Bryan’s All In is a chance for me to get back to my roots. I’ve had so many amazing experiences over the years – ups and downs, wins and losses — and I feel like I’ve learned a thing or two.” For most people, hitting the road in their RV would be a vacation. For Bryan, even though it’s work, it’s a return to what feels comfortable, a chance to do some good while doing what he’s good at. “I’m excited to get back in the weeds, on the tools, and share that knowledge with fledgling entrepreneurs looking to get off the hamster wheel and create the life they’ve always dreamed of for themselves.”

What Can Viewers Expect?

The first few years of a business are the most trying. To succeed, even the best owners need dedication, planning, and a bit of luck. With his help, Bryan hopes that those early years can be just a bit easier. “I’m always excited to see young people, or people reinventing themselves through entrepreneurship. I get to travel the road less travelled with them, experience what draws them to these places and businesses, and put in a little sweat equity to help them get the business back on track and ready for success.” Communities are stronger when the businesses they need are community owned.

What Has Been the Best Part of Filming Bryan’s All In?

“Meeting people, experiencing new places and adventures, and sharing my own experiences and knowledge has always been something I love.” As nice as it is to give back, there’s also something in it for Bryan. Traveling cross-country and meeting new and wonderful people is a wonderful experience. Doing so in his trusty RV, Bryan will truly be mastering the work/play balance. “Bryan’s All In brings it all together. There are some wild adventures, interesting characters, and lots of fun. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

When you think of the beach what comes to mind? Is it sunny weather, games on the sand, or chilling on the water? Whatever comes to mind, for most people the beach is bright and happy memories. Those are the exact type of memories rental buyers, Sarah and Rob, were hoping to provide their guests when purchasing a beachside house in trendy Crystal Beach. Located along the shores of Lake Erie, the home was in an ideal location and a not-so-ideal state. That’s why they called Scott McGillivray, to take this rental from beachside mess to surfside success. Together with designer Debra Salmoni they brought a pop of colour to this stunning beachside abode.

Lackluster Listing

When Sarah and Rob first purchased the beachside property, it had very little going for it. With a confusing layout, shaped like an hourglass and laundry in the middle of the house, it felt claustrophobic. The footprint of the house was good, but with its bottleneck design and a bathroom that could only be accessed from the exterior it wasn’t practical. However, what it did have was something no renovation can provide, location. Being only a few yards from the beach, it was in the idea location for Scott’s team to bring out its full potential.

At the back of the house was a sunroom that had seen brighter days. Debra, never wasting a chance to lighten up a room, gave the room an open beachy feel. However, she didn’t stop at just the decor, she painted the ceiling yellow, so now guests can feel like they’re under the sun no matter the weather.

After the weird layout it started with, anything would have seemed spacious, but the team wasn’t resting on their laurels. Instead, they opened as much as possible, creating a seamless kitchen and dining space. Now guests can enjoy each other’s company and keep the fun going as they prepare dinner in style at the beachside abode.

Relaxing Retreat

Despite the draw of the beachside abode being the beach itself, it had to be inviting all on its own. To make sure the home felt just as leisurely as the beach, Scott and Debra designed a space that would be stylish, relaxing, and durable. That way the home would stand both the test of time and sand covered guests. Now Sarah and Rob know that their rental will look stunning throughout the years and the many many guests.

Orange You Glad?

Being that the home was in such a trendy neighborhood, it would likely be competing with other rentals. In order to help it stand out against the competition (or stand out in general) Scott decided to go with orange siding. With the sunset siding installed, it’s now impossible to miss. Not only does the new colour give the house a fun and lighthearted vibe, but it serves as an excellent branding opportunity. With such a standout curb appeal, guests and locals alike won’t be able to forget the beachside abode in all its orange glory.

Vacations are about more than just relaxing; they’re escapes and new experiences. For couple Andy and Jeff, that was escaping the city and experiencing retired life in a stylish mid-century modern retreat. After finding a stunning mid-century home in the heart of Prince Edward County, they just needed a little help sorting between the dated and the designer. That’s where Scott McGillivray came in, to take their new vacation home from dated to dazzling. Together, with designer Debra Salmoni, they turned this 60’s time capsule into a groovy mid-century modern getaway. Read on for details on the final design and watch the reveal video to see how Andy and Jeff react to the full transformation.

Stuck In Time

Jeff and Andy had purchased the home with hopes of retiring in it some day. Until then, they were hoping to both enjoy it as a vacation property and rental opportunity. Even though the house was in excellent condition, that condition was from the 60’s. The home’s mid-century decor was a big part of why the couple fell in love with the home, but not all of that vintage charm was, well… charming.

Keeping the Couch

At first, walking into the home was a bit jarring. With a bright red carpet taking up the whole living room it was hard to notice anything else. Thanks to that red-hot floor, it was easy to miss the incredible sectional sitting in the middle of the room. Overshadowed by the carpet and clad in an unassuming brown, it was a mid-century diamond in the rough. Thankfully, after a quick game of the-floor-is-lava, Scott and the team saved it so it could be reupholstered in a stunning avocado green. Now the couch sits as the focal point of a very Mad Men living room.

A Flash of Funk

For the bedrooms, Debra wanted to bring elements of mid-century designs while still feeling luxe. She achieved just that by using vintage furniture and a single groovy feature wall in each bedroom. By doing so, she created a space that stayed consistent with the theme while not overwhelming. Now, guests will feel like they’re visiting a high-end hotel from their favorite era with all the modern amenities.

Bathroom Throwback

For Scott, this renovation was a first. It was the first time that clients had specifically asked to save the dated colourful bathroom fixtures. In most cases that would have been a mistake, but not this home. After saving, refurbishing, and reinstalling those fixtures, Debra and Scott complimented them with some modern and stylish decor. Now the bathrooms are a porcelain picture of 60’s style.

Backyard Bliss

Though Andy and Jeff bought the house, there was one more member of the family in charge of things: Archie, the dog. Their adorable pup needed a fenced-in area to enjoy himself. Not wanting to leave guests out, Scott took the opportunity to create a stunning yard for guests to enjoy in privacy. Complete with a wood burning fireplace and pizza oven, guests can relax outside while getting gourmet and groovy.
